As of September 19, 2026 we have not identified a local Zone 0 ordinance for Altadena. The statewide Zone 0 draft is Proposed — not in force. Replacing a wood fence-to-house connection with a noncombustible panel or gate is Recommended now. Confirm with LA County Fire before acting on any deadline.
I am rebuilding after the Eaton Fire. Can I put back the wood fence I had?

Can I keep most of the fence and replace just the last section?
Usually that is a practical approach. The highest-risk part is where the fence meets the house. A metal gate or noncombustible panel at the connection point is a cost-effective step on many lots, especially narrow side yards. It is Recommended now, not Required now.
Does vinyl fencing work in the first five feet?
No. Standard vinyl is combustible and deforms under radiant heat. Metal, masonry, or verified fire-rated products are better choices.
